Program of events

7 pm, Thursday, January 16, “Curating Palestinian Art – Inside and Outside of the Institution.”

A conversation between exhibition curator Kathy Zarur and Sascha Crasnow (Lecturer, Islamic Arts, Residential College, University of Michigan) on the challenges of curating exhibitions of Palestinian art in the United States.

2 pm – 4 pm, Saturday, January 25, “Building the Palestine Library.”

As part of the exhibition, we will be building the Palestine Library. Bring your favorite Palestine book or your own writing, or even an artifact that is especially meaningful to you; read an excerpt, tell a story, or just come and meet others! We hope that you'll loan your donation to the library for the duration of the exhibition, but don't worry, you'll get it back after the show closes.

2 pm – 5 pm, Saturday, February 1, “Make-a-Zine Workshop” with Leila Abdelrazaq (co-hosted by Maamoul Press)

Graphic novelist and co-founder of Maamoul Press, Leila Abdelrazaq, will lead a zine-making workshop. Participants will create short, hand-made zines in response to materials in the Palestine Library. Participants will learn basic bookbinding techniques, and are welcome to employ illustration, collage, poetry, or other kinds of creative responses to Library materials in the making of their zine. Bring your favorite pen and a journal to write in! All other materials will be provided, and no experience is necessary.

7 pm – 9 pm, Saturday, February 8, Closing Reception (co-hosted by Arab.AMP and Entropy Stereo)

We close out the exhibition with a short reception featuring performance duo Tawil & Khoury (dancer Leyya Mona Tawil and musician Mike Khoury) responding to a screening of The Harvest is Full of Thorns, a stunningly beautiful 15-minute preview from Ryah Aqel's film-in-progress Masafer Yatta.
